Angela Allen Duck, PhD, RN
Dr. Duck is an assistant pofessor in the School of Nursing at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Dr. Duck earned her MSN with an emphasis on nursing education from UMMC in 2013, and her PhD in nursing science from UMMC in 2018. She has a strong interest in community-based and physical activity research. Her dissertation addressed physical activity and fall risk reduction in rural, community dwelling older adults, in which the use of accelerometers was deployed. She has experience with focus group and Photovoice methodologies in a physical activity project with urban school children and leaders. Furthermore, Dr. Duck has experience in recruitment, retention, and a variety of quantitative data collection strategies with preschool children.
Dr. Duck has a record of funding including as a Jonas Nurse Scholar, a Sigma Theta Tau International Chapter grant, and UMMC School of Nursing seed grants. Her scholarship includes numerous presentations and a refereed journal article, with several other manuscripts in progress.
She received several awards throughout her career including the Jonas Nurse Scholar Award by the Jonas Foundation and American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National Quality Connect Champion by the American College of Physicians, UMMC School of Graduate Studies Dean’s Scholarship and Stipend, UMMC School of Nursing Service Award, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) Certificate of Clinical Excellence in Hypertension Disease Management, and Mississippi Association for Rights of Citizens with Disabilities Family of the Year. Dr. Duck has participated in fellowships at the Public Health Accreditation Board Quality Improvement Leadership Academy and LSUHSC Clinician’s Leadership Academy.
Dr. Duck has over 20 years of professional clinical and administrative experience. Prior to joining the faculty at UMMC in 2018, Dr. Duck was as an assistant professor of nursing at Alcorn State University in Natchez, MS. Dr. Duck’s teaching reflects a desire to empower students with knowledge and passion for lifelong learning and prepare the next generation of nurses and nurse scientists.
